Christie Hackler and Christie Owen co-founded Fringe in 2010 with the goal of helping female artists find success. Although 65-75 percent of MFA students are women, female artists account for only 27 percent of solo exhibitions. A mere five percent of artworks at major museums were created by women. Ethos gives physical expression to the feelings of being alive. Fringe artists will donate a portion of all art sales from the show to The Homeless Alliance.

AUTUMN POP-UP @ NAULT GALLERY

OPENING RECEPTION FRIDAY | SEPTEMBER 14TH | 6 PM TO 9 PM
NAULT GALLERY | 816 N. WALKER AVE | OKC
NEW WORKS & MEET THE ARTISTS
LIVE MUSIC FROM JOSH FUDGE
REFRESHMENTS & LIGHT FARE
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Autumn Pop Up, a show exhibiting new work from the studios of Anthony Dyke, Susan Morrison-Dyke, Suzanne Mears and Christie Owen, will open with a reception on Friday, September 14th from 6 pm to 9 pm at Nault Gallery in Midtown. The opening reception is free and open to the public. Visitors will be able to the meet the artists and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and libations.

All four artists are well-established and highly visible artists in the Oklahoma City metro area and beyond. The show promises to offer a beautiful exhibition consisting of large and small abstract paintings that share a common connecting thread when hung together. The tactile and visceral paintings create a strong impression of kindred spirits among the four artists and their love for the physical act of painting. These artists take their work to a place where the viewer is allowed to simply enjoy the physicality of the medium, the lushness of paint and brushstrokes cutting contours to create form and space in fields of spatial ambiguity. The generous wall space, loft-like ceilings an abundance of beautiful, natural light at Nault Gallery will provide the ideal atmosphere in which to view the works. The opening night will include a reception with live music from jazz musician Josh Fudge, refreshments from Vanessa House Brewing Co. and light fare.

Anthony Dyke is an artist who draws inspiration from interior spaces and his urban surroundings. He manipulates images that are often reduced to shapes and areas of color through an intuitive process that leads his works to a painterly abstraction.

Susan Morrison-Dyke finds inspiration in the spiritual geometry of ancient art, the reductive design and abstraction of mid-century modern and the fresh inventiveness of cubism. Her colorful works are constructed with figurative and narrative content.

Christie Owen’s art is created with a minimalist approach where texture and light become the subject. Her paintings utilize a variety of techniques and applications to invite the viewer to notice organic surface qualities within quiet compositions.

Suzanne Mears creates work in kiln formed glass, painting and clay. Each plays with and off of the other in the importance of inspiration and a continually fresh impact. Her work is contemporary, colorful, bold, exuberant and optimistic.

Nault Gallery, a fine art exhibition space, is located at 816 N. Walker Ave. in Midtown, Oklahoma City. Autumn Pop-Up opens September 14, 2018 and closes November 9, 2018. Visitors can view the show Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. For more information about Nault Gallery, visit naultfineart.com or call 405.642.4414.

Christie Owen is at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame — Gaylord Pickens Museum for her solo exhibition “Surroundings.” She has been an artist all her life and graphic designer for over 20 years. From a distance, her art exudes a “less is more” or minimalist aesthetic but with closer investigation the composition, surface textures and layers sensitize the viewer to escape on a visual journey. Inspired by our everyday environments, the materials and compositions in her art work perpetually change in relation to various time and life experiences. Her work captures a journey of experimentation while seeking to convey balance and unity through forms and colors derived by industry and nature. Christie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design from State University of New York College at Buffalo.

CHRISTIE OWEN @ THE COLLECTIVE

If you missed the Opening Reception you can stop in The Collective from now until October 18th, 2016 to see an all black & white art show by Christie Owen inspired by simplicity and balance. Christie infuses graphic and organic elements in her paintings to reflect a “less is more” outlook on life and art. Making art is a way for her to escape the technological realm, contemplate modern living and nature and then communicate how each domain influences another. It is her intention to engage the viewer to utilize the art, fill a void with something beautiful and evoke a sense of tranquility in the modern world.

The Collective a female co-working space in downtown Edmond, Oklahoma. It is a place to be present and productive, keeping home for rest and relationship. The Collective is located at 239 North Broadway, Edmond, Oklahoma.

With each quarterly show at Verbode, the artist has the opportunity to work solo or in a group format to create dynamic and progressive exhibits for the public that reflect the flourishing creativity of the Oklahoma art community.

Christie Owen is the 2016 Urban Core Artist in Residence at Verbode. She has been an artist all her life and graphic designer for over 20 years.

Oklahoma City artist Matt Goad has been working professionally as a graphic designer and illustrator for over 20 years, and venturing into the realm of paintings on canvas in 2007. Whimsical, geometric, simple and complex, his paintings of animals and nature draw inspiration from classic graphic design and pop art reproduction of the mid 20th century. The discovery of woodcut printing during college was a major turning point in Matt’s development of his illustration style he refers to as “chunkism,” utilizing stencils and acrylics to create a world where nature and geometry meet and have a baby.

Exhibit opens September 15 and closes November 11, 2016.
