AKA Gallery | The White Show

For this event, I designed the graphics slightly reminiscent of the Beatles White Album.

White. The color is often tied to many religious, social, and historical ideals; wedding dresses, skin color, clouds, death. Thoughts attachments, and judgments are made. However, that has NOTHING to do with this show! The women of FRINGE, OKC’s Women’s Art Organization will be hosting a show at AKA Gallery in the prestigious Paseo Arts District. Each artist will individually interpret how the paring down of the palette and the absence of color affects their work, their process, and their concepts.

Artist Reception: October 5th 2012 from 6 to 10 pm & runs till October 28th

Show Location: AKA Gallery, 3001 Paseo OKC, 405.606.2522, www.akagallery.net AKA

Gallery Hours: Gallery is open Wednesday – Saturday 12:00 to 5:00 or by appointment

“Nodo” | Copper | 25′ x 25″ | Currently on exhibit at AKA Gallery on the Paseo in Oklahoma City – Nodo is Latin for tangle. This sculpture would work well as a light fixture.
The ‘tangle” of the copper evolved as the concept for this piece because the material was already gnarled and spiraled from it being used to control plants in a garden. I like using reclaimed material sometimes because it narrows down the possibilities. It actually helps my brain zero in on the overall shape of the design instead of wondering off in a million directions. This piece coincidentally emulated my “Brocade” series of paintings with respect to the intertwining movement of the lines so the 2d and 3d work meshing was a happy accident.
View from inside AKA Gallery. “Nodo” suspended from the ceiling. The “Vis” copper jewelry series – middle & Brocade #6 – on the left.
The painting on the back wall is “Brocade #7.” 5 paintings from this series now have happy homes & one of these is located at Lewis Orthodontics in Edmond… #6 and #7 are up for grabs at AKA gallery right now. #7 is Mixed Media 30″ x 40″
Group of cuffs with white leather and cloth (l to r – “Vis”, “Erro”, “Persto”)
Necklaces (L to R – “Spero”, “Carpe Diem” SOLD, “Vis”)

A huge thanks to Butch & Cynthia Curry for sharing their studio space with me! Jaci Hoffman for giving me loads of copper she previously used in her garden so I can make more sculpture & jewelry. Mark (my husband) for helping me sand and sand and sand and cap! I am so thankful for the support of my friends and family.
