“My work today consists of sculptures, furniture, lighting, paintings and jewelry. I utilize a range of mediums to create minimalist and organic art. I specialize in steel, copper, brass, wood and painting. I strive to create enclaves with my work that exemplify form, function and art.

Searching for environmental and emotional tranquility, my art is a result of looking for visual solutions. It is a way to escape the technological realm, contemplate modern living, nature and communicate how each domain influences another.

I work in a variety of mediums to offset impulsive tendencies and contrived notions. There is a simultaneous harmony in my process involving upcycling materials, planning and producing sculpture or jewelry and painting without restraint. Searching for new combinations by infusing modern and organic themes, my work is generally crafted in an expressionist and progressive manner regardless of medium.

It is my intention to engage the viewer to utilize the art, fill a void with something beautiful, improve emotional and environmental disposition and evoke a sense of balance in the modern world.” —CO

Christie creates art to escape from the fast pace of the digitally engineered world. With themes ranging from texture and light to nature and seasons, her art is an eclectic fusion of ideas and images blending modernism and minimalism. Christie enjoys the opportunity creating art gives her not only to slow down and pause an experience, but also to capture and preserve it. With a playful and organic feel, her paintings, sculptures and jewelry utilize a variety of techniques and applications to create a sense of enduring tranquility and beauty.

Christie Fleuridas Owen is an artist and graphic designer living in Oklahoma.

Her art work consists of sculptures, collages, installations, paintings, drawings, jewelry and graphic design. The intermix between designer and artist cultivate a fusion of minimalist and organic themes.

She was born and raised in upsate New York and by a talented family of artists, photographers, jewelers and carpenters. As a child, she encountered a profound affinity for visual art.  At Victor High School in N.Y. she was fortunate to have four art teachers who acknowledged her proficiency. As a result, Christie acquired college credit during high school while attending 2D art classes at Nazareth College.

At Buffalo State College she was inspired by her color theory professor Bonnie Gordon Pfhal, who welcomed experimentation in class. Buffalo’s flourishing art scene, rich history, diverse culture, Albright-Knox Art Gallery , Burchfield Penny Art Center and Hallwalls provided a creative haven for Christie.

After graduating from SUNY Buffalo with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree she moved to Oklahoma in 1997 where she began her professional career as a graphic designer. Computers became her creative outlet for over a decade as she became an Advertising & Marketing Director.

Christie continued to paint and draw as an outlet from the digital world. Friends and businesses commissioned her to create art and she then immersed herself into the Oklahoma City art scene. Christie felt liberated and learned an abundance about being a professional artist when she apprenticed under internationally renowned sculptor David Phelps.

In 2011, she founded CO Art & Design where she operates as an artist and graphic designer. Christie is also co-founder and Vice President of FRINGE (Oklahoma Women’s Art Organization.) As Marketing Director of FRINGE, she provides the the branding power elemental to the organizations success.

Christie shows her work at museums, galleries and competitions on a regular basis. She is also the Co-Founder of the wings of ART auction & gala to benefit Special Care, a non-profit special needs school in Oklahoma City.
